EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

All musicians working on ships must pass a physical exam, the standards for which vary from cruise line to cruise line. A very detailed list of medical standards can be viewed HERE. Not all cruise lines have the same standards, so we have listed the most strict as a guideline.

Generally you must be in VERY good health, with no medical problems that require any treatment or observation by a physician. In particular, cruise lines would like for all musicians to be free from any contagious diseases (including STD's), have good mobility, and be physically fit, with no cardiac
or breathing problems. All require that applicants pass a pre-employment drug screen, and most do random drug screening on board as well.

In most cases you must either take the exam at a clinic approved by the cruise line (where they bear the cost), or, if you go to your own doctor, bear the cost yourself, with all or part of the cost reimbursed to you by the cruise line.
